BARC May 21st Mallory Park

A near capacity grid of ‘Oldies but Goldies’ was the star attraction as 50 years of racing at Mallory Park was celebrated. The 45-minute mini-enduro, with an optional two-driver format for pre-60 cars, drew a fine performance from Mike Haig (left) who splashed his fleet Austin A40 home narrowly ahead of the similar car of Ivor and Mervyn Miller.

After 38 laps, there was little more than a second between the battling A40s as the less wieldy Jaguar MK1 of Ian Kellett and former Broadspeed man Tony Dron trailed home 20sec adrift. Local ace Tim Watson took a narrow win in the re-started Classic Saloon/Historic Touring Car race, while Simon Armer’s Cooper T59 led the Formula Juniors from the hard-charging Lola Mk2 of John Truslove
