Off the blocks

The ex-Alan Jones Williams FW06/2 returned to racing after an absence of two decades during the Grand Prix Masters races at Pau. Owned by Graham Willcox, the car has been restored completely by Tom Denyer and was first seen at Stoneleigh in February.

The Patrick Head-designed chassis was first raced by Jones at Long Beach in 1978 when it finished seventh, its best GP result. The arrival of the FW07 at the Spanish Grand Prix in 1979 rendered the FW06 surplus to requirements and it was raced in the British F1 series by motorbike ace Giacomo Agostini.

The car was then acquired by a Saudi prince and hung on the wall of a casino in Malaga! It was bought by Adrian Hamilton in 2000, before Willcox purchased it in 2001.

The car’s next outing is scheduled for the Nürburgring at the end of June.
