I am a late starter with this moving-image ‘magazine’ – this is Volume Five, after all – but I’m now forever smitten. Put together by rare-footage finder extraordinaire David Weguelin – and with pithy links from Doug Nye, whose study is just how I imagined it to be! – these three-monthly dips into the sport’s black-and-white and Kodachrome past are superb.

This particular offering perches you on the engine cowling of Jim Clark’s Lotus as he sweeps it around Oulton (now I know why the Avenue is so called). It also takes you behind the scenes of the R&D programme of the Le Mans Rover Turbine car, puts you in the stands for the 1961 BRDC May meeting at Silverstone, and flashes you over winding mountain passes on the 1954 Alpine Rally.

Ninety minutes of reverie. PF
