Sir Jack's Brabham back on track

After three decades away, the ex-Jack Brabham/Jochen Rindt Brabham BT26 has returned to racing this season.

Owned by Philip Walker, chassis BT26/2 will tackle a selected series of FORCE races after making its debut at Pau.

The car was raced by Rindt with Repco power in 1968, and by Brabham with DFV power in 1969, before being damaged in a testing accident at Silverstone.

In late 1969, it was sold to American Gus Hutchinson, but has recently returned to Europe and been completely rebuilt in Cosworth DFV form.

Designer Ron Tauranac has assisted with confirming the car’s history and will join Walker’s team at the Oulton Park Gold Cup in August.

“Ron has been a big help with the chassis records and it’s a lovely car,” said Walker.

Rob Wilson will drive the car at Oulton Park. He is the current holder of the Gold Cup, as it was last awarded for a British GT race.
