Marcais restores French pride
Flavien Marcais made up for his Monaco disappointments the following week in Pau. He drove the wailing BRM P180 to victory in the FORCE Classic Fl race, and then to underline his mastery of the street circuit, triumphed in the Pre-1959 HGPCA race in a Cooper-Bristol. The challenge of ERA R14B in the skilled hands of Julian Bronson kept Margais pushing hard, however.
There was also a Cooper to the fore in the Pre-1966 HGPCA as Rod Jolley’s press-on style netted victory.
A typically close Formula Junior race fell to Michael Schryver’s Lotus 22, with the 27 of Swiss racer Urs Eberhardt an ever-present rival.
The European Sports Prototype field was in action, with series motivator Jonathan Baker winning in his rare Ford F3L, while David Heynes was also victorious in his Lotus 15.
The European Formula 2 Trophy was secured by Robert Simac in his March 712.
