Oliver and GT40 to be reunited
Jackie Oliver, winner of the 1969 Le Mans 24-hour race with Jacky Ickx, will be reunited with a Ford GT40 during the Silverstone Historic Festival in August.
Oliver will race chassis 1084, belonging to Martin Colvill, in the pair of races for 1960s World Endurance Cars. The 1965 car was the fifth production Mkt GT40 and is a sister car to the 1969 Le Mans-winner. It was entered for the 1965 endurance race by Rob Walker and driven by Umberto Maglioli and Bob Bondurant, but failed to finish
It was later rebuilt by John Wyer’s team and contested the 1968 Spa 1000km race in the hands of David Hobbs and Paul Hawkins. They finished fourth. Colvill has owned the car since 1981 and has taken part in around 150 races with it.
