The champion returns
Thoroughbred, GP, Donington Park & Monza
Former multiple champion Bob Berridge blitzed back into the Thoroughbred Grand Prix Cars arena in round two at Donington in May with a typically attacking drive in his Arrows A4, despite a year away. In a race run as an aggregate of two parts, Berridge battled ahead of the Williams FVVO8C ofJohn Wilson to win by three seconds in total. None of the bumper grid could match the pace of Berridge, who recovered from a half-spin at the Melbourne Hairpin to clinch victory ahead of the Williams pack.
Behind Wilson came Richard Eyre (FVV08) and Freddy Kumschick (FWO7C), while Chris Perkins (Surtees TS16) and Sid Hoole (Brabham BT33) claimed the classes for older cars. Two weeks later, in the stunning setting of Monza, a grid of 30 TGP cars thrilled local fans. With Berridge absent, Duncan Dayton took victory in his Williams FVVO7C from the ’07B of fellow American Aaron Hsu and Steve Hitchins in the unique Lotus 88B. John Bladon (Surtees TS9B) and Mike Whatley (Ensign N175) took class victories. PL
