Jack's Wheels Irish copies

A few copies of the late Jack Pouncy’s Jack’s wheels are available and fans of Brooklands, or trials of the MCC kind, should not neglect it. I enjoyed the description of how Pouncy and his team went for records at Brooklands with a Baker-Villiers, although he had ridden there only once before and a co-driver never. This recalls how young Grose used to ride in races with his two-stroke 175cc ExcelsiorVilliers, taken from London to the Track in a Chevrolet van. He would retire again and again with the deflector top of the piston burnt through and a Villiers rep would then call with a new piston and discuss mixture strengths etc, I believe to no avail. Two more of the worthwhile Dreolin albums of motoring history are now available. No7, The Cork Motor Races 1936-38, is by Wilford Fitzsimmons. The reports are of great interest; so many British drivers did well on the Cork circuit — in 1936 Tongue, Powys-Lybbe and Dobson were 1,2,3. Race results are well tabulated and the pictures interesting. Will Fitzsimmons has fine memories — do you know why the scrutineers inspected drivers’ shoes? I hope other Irish races such as Leinster, the Curragh, County Down etc will be covered by these albums, of which No3 is about the Irish GPs and No6 the Dundrod Ti’s.
