Moss in sister Lister at Coys

Stirling Moss will turn the clock back 40 years to July 19, 1958, and his victory in the sportscar event supporting the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, when he races the ex-Equipe National Beige Lister-Jaguar in a tribute to Brian Lister’s cars at next month’s BRDC Coys Festival.

Moss has happy memories of the sister works chassis. “I liked my car, with its pugnacious knobbly body, and was able to lead from start to finish, averaging 97.2mph, quicker than my fastest lap in the F1 Maserati four years earlier,” he said in his book My Cars, My Career. Fewer than 50 Listers were built in Cambridge, the first in 1954, but they boast a remarkable competition record. Around 20 are expected at the Festival, either racing or in a special marquee. Among those promised are the ‘Monzanapolis’ single-seater, a 1955 Lister-Bristol and the Frank Costin-designed spaceframe coupe of 1959. The latest Lister Storm will provide contrast. MP
