Moss, Brooks for Vanwall reunion at Aintree
Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks and Vanwall will be reunited at Aintree on July 19-20, exactly 40 years after Moss recorded the first all-British World Championship Grand Prix victory at the Liverpool circuit in one of Tony Vandervell’s cars, chassis VW 10.
Moss and Brooks are also due to share Aintree memories in a Saturday evening event in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall which will be worth travelling a long way to see.
Although the VW10 chassis is in the USA, Tom Wheatcroft is loaning the Donington Collection’s Vanwall for the special event, which will feature demonstrations by a wide range of Historic and competition cars on the rarely-used three-mile Grand Prix circuit on the Sunday. Wheatcroft’s machine is currently undergoing extensive restoration by the craftsmen at Arch Motors in Huntingdon.
Mike Ashcroft of the Aintree Circuit Club is determined to make the retro a regular feature on the calendar. The club runs rounds of the RAC British Sprint Championship, but still harbours a dream of bringing racing back to Merseyside. Details from Ashcroft on 0161 337 8648.
