Historic absences

Sir,

In your article on the Monaco Historique GP you intimated that I, with some others, was not very enthusiastic about this event.

This is not entirely true; in my article for Road and Track I wrote that I thought it was the finest collection of historic racing cars that had been put together this century. But I said that the event would have been so much better if the organisers had paid the expenses to get together some world famous drivers. Only Stirling Moss was there, and he was paid by a film company for which he was working. They could easily have had at least three world champions and many more past grand prix winners driving. This would have made a truly Historic Anniversary.

Famous old cars will, we hope, he with us for ever; sadly the drivers most certainly will not.

I am yours, etc
