Cleaner Carrera

No more hot-rods — that’s the decision of the organisers of the Carrera PanAmeri cana. Increasingly dominated lately by virtually new 200mph lookalikes of period machinery, the trans-Mexico marathon on October 25/31 will ban these for this and the next two years, restrict modifications, and introduce an unmodified Appendix K class. The aim is to reduce speeds, tempt more Europeans back, and bring out some of the drum-braked Fifties machinery which used to run in the original PanAm.
