The objection to Continuous Licensing has resulted in universal support from the motor clubs. The initial 7000 or so letters of complaint to the DVLA must have multiplied into a veritable flood.

As requested by the VMCC and other clubs I duly wrote to the Prime Minister, all the relevant Government departments, the DVLA and to my MP, objecting strongly, on the grounds expressed on this page last month. I did not expect Mr Major to reply, for he must be much occupied with the loss of so many Conservative seats in the Local Elections, the Irish situation, the mess we have made of fighting in Serbia, etc. But I did receive acknowledgement from “No 10”, and a lady acting for Alun Newport, the scapegoat at the DVLA, sent the CL twin documents, as if I had not read them prior to writing! My MP also replied. However, early days… But I hope this signifies that all concerned are now buried deeply under a vast sea of convincing paper…
