Sauber sprang out of the box quite strongly at the beginning of the year, with its new C13 and Heinz-Harald Frentzen to push Karl Wendlinger along, but after an initial burst the Swiss-German team seemed to lose some of its momentum. Wendlinger’s unfortunate accident at
Monaco then knocked it sideways, and it has taken it a while to recover its equilibrium.
Frentzen has displayed all the speed expected of him, but until Canada he had barely put a wheel wrong apart from spinning in Brazil. What he and the team desperately need now is a strong finish.
