Obituary: Eric Giles
We learn with regret of the death of Eric Giles, who played such a prominent part in the early days of the Bugatti OC, of which his brother, Col GM Giles, was one of the three founders in 1929. Eric was Trials Secretary until 1932, when he became the Club’s Honorary Secretary and Treasurer. Those were in the days when Earl Howe was the first President, Sir Malcolm Campbell Vice-President and Ettore Bugatti the Club’s Patron. In 1946 Eric Giles resigned as Secretary and was elected Chairman, becoming President in 1951. A quiet person with impeccable manners, Eric Giles was frequently with his brother in their Bugattis, for which he designed some striking bodywork. WB
