The Golf convertible
I have it fixed in my mind that the Volkswagen Golf Convertible in its one model, fuel-injected, 1,600 cc, UK market guise is known as the GTi Convertible. That would be logical, for this rapid little four-seater soft top is identical mechanically to the Golf GTi hatchback. But VW have set out to confuse: they have designated it the GLi because of its trim level. Several readers have pointed out my error in calling it a GTi in last month’s issue, and I’m afraid the mistake has been repeated by WB in his article on VW (GB) in this issue. Apologies, but I still think it should have been a GTi . CR
