I was delighted to read in my copy of Motor Sport for May that we managed to impress your reader Mr. R. A. M. Coyne with our made-to-order service for tachometer and speedometer cables. Thank you for an unsolicited and very welcome testimonial. However, I cannot help rushing into print to express my horror that it took as much as two weeks for him to receive the cable he had ordered from us.

In general circumstances there is no particular difficulty in making up cables to any length required using the enormous array of standard end fittings which motor and machinery manufacturers over the years have got involved with; we stock all of these types. The problem we face nowadays is that even if the customer uses first class post it is often three or four days before we receive the sample (assuming that the cable is not one which we can identify over the telephone), and a further delay is involved in our returning the finished article. It is our aim to ensure that all orders for cables using standard ends are despatched within 48 hours of receipt of sample, provided that only a small quantity are required and payment accompanies the order. However the postal service of the ’70s often ensures that the unfortunate customer waits a great deal longer than that.
