You've heard of Angela Rippon?
Angela Rippon, BBC Newscaster, is a girl of many parts. When we received a BBC hand-out announcing that she was to have her own BBC Motoring Programme, we tried to obtain more of her motoring background than that she is a keen driver who covers 25,000 miles a year and drives frequently from London and Birmingham to her home in Plymouth. Her Producer, Derek Smith, tells us that she has been driving since she was 20, that is, for 12 years, Mr. Smith having been so ungallant as to disclose Angela’s age, and that she now uses a Ford Granada Ghia. Her father is remembered as having had one of the bigger Rovers, when Angela was a young girl. – W.B.
Cheap Motoring
Letters in the last May referred to a 1949 flat-twin Bradford used for sonic extensive touring in Europe and to well beyond the Arctic Circle, and to a car bought at an auction in Somerset for the equivalent of 50p., in 1927. It had a tank full of petrol and was driven home by its latest owner, who had just purchased a new Singer, and used to teach his children about cars. From its photograph it appears to have been a Horstman.
