VSCC Light Car Rally
The Light Car Section of the VSCC held its annual Rally in the Cotswolds on June 7th and 8th, a weekend of glorious sunshine well-suited to these small cars. Saturday included a ‘bus trip to the Woolstaplers Hall museums in Chipping Campden, showing Guy Griffiths’ collection of interesting and desirable historic cars. Later a regatta was held; Neill Bruce and Pat Wilson emerged the winners of a hotly contested and wet event, everyone transferring the wet feeling from outside to inside later at a splendid barbecue at Ron Barker’s home, generously opened to the Section for the weekend. The Rally on Sunday ran over a lovely Cotswold route thought out by “Steady” with Arthur Jeddere-Fisher’s fiendish directions keeping crews busy, the finish and the AGM actually taking place in a ford, a delightful place for a very hot day. Ron Sant’s Clyno won the Lady Rachel Trophy, beating a gaggle of Austin Sevens, Humbers, Citroëns, Morrises and a Swift, Talbot, Stellite, Salmson, Hillman, Star and Standard, the Minor depriving its navigator, Miggie Bruce, of an award by dramatically overheating its ignition wire. Jeremy Collins conducted Marcia Jeddere-Fisher’s Lancia Theta to best Edwardian over John Rowley’s Theophile Schneider and Brenda Rowley in the Talbot 25/50.—R.B.
