Monaco F.3 Race
On Saturday afternoon, before the Grand Prix practice, two heats for F.3 cars were held, the fastest eleven from each heat starting in the final, held over 24 laps, after the Grand Prix practice. Heat 1 was run in damp conditions and Heat 2 in really wet conditions, so that there was no comparison between the two races. The regulations assumed the heats would be run in identical conditions and said that the grid for the final would line up in order of heat race-times. This meant that the winner of Heat 1, Jaussaud (Tecno), was on pole position and the winner of Heat 2, Beckwith (DAP), was half-way down the grid, and all the faster drivers in Heat 2 were behind a lot of slow Heat 1 drivers. With the two-by-two grid at Monaco it would have been a fair and simple matter to put the eleven from Heat 1 on the left and the eleven from Heat 2 on the right, so that there would have been a good race between Jaussaud and Beckwith, as well as the other fast drivers. As it was the A.C. of Monaco stuck to the rules, making no allowance for weather conditions and the final was a bit of a farce, with Jaussaud running away with the event and any serious opposition being too boxed in during the opening laps to ever get to grips with him.
