Rolls-Bentley Comparisons
Sir,
I was interested in the letter from Mr. Andrew Lloyd, in your May issue, with regard to the performance of the Mark VI Bentley and earlier 4 1/4-litre models.
In my opinion, comparing acceleration figures taken over a period of years can be very misleading due to variations in tune, weight and fuel, not to mention weather conditions.
Having owned both a 1936 4 1/4-litre, and a Mark VI, I can say without hesitation that the latter is the faster car. Mine was officially timed by the Clerk of the Course at MontIhery to lap at exactly 95 m.p.h. This means a slightly higher maximum.
I am. Yours, etc.,
Westerham. HUGH HUNTER.
