The World’s Speed Record.

WH FA Miss England III went over to Lake Garda last month, everyone naturally hoped that Kaye Don would return to England with the world’s speed record once again in his possession. Consequently, great disappointment was felt when the boat failed to live up to these expectations.

We are in a position to state, however, that the trip to Lake Garda was only in the nature of a trial run. Certain modifications are now being carried out, and there is a possibility that the old practice type engines will be replaced by the latest type Rolls-Royce Schneider Trophy Race engines.

Miss England III will then be taken to Loch Lomond, where further trials will take place preparatory to attempts on the world’s speed record being made at Detroit.

Loch Lomond is within twenty miles of Glasgow, and provides a very large expanse of sheltered water. It is twenty-four miles long and five miles wide at the southern end, more than double the area of Lake Windermere.

Meanwhile, in U.S.A., the American Power Boat Association has officially passed Gar Wood’s record of 111.7 m.p.h. which he set up at Indiana Creek, Miami, last February.
