Riley Motor Club’s 24-Hour Trial.

FOR their 24-hour trial in Wales on July 3rd and 4th–one of the most ambitious trials ever attempted by a club whose membership is limited to one make of car—the Riley Motor Club have already secured a record entry of seventy cars.

Cars have been entered by Mr. Donald Healey, and by Mr. and. Mrs. Montague Johnstone whose Alpine ” Sixes ” (the only two British cars to be entered., by the way) both gained first-class awards in the 6,000 mile motor trial round Europe, organised by the German Automobile Club.

Cars must not only be of Riley manufacture, but must be equipped in accordance with their catalogue specification, while another condition is that every seat with the exception of the occasional or dickey seats must be occupied.

Special prizes are offered for lady drivers and for those who have never before taken part in any trial. All competitors must make for Brecon by specified routes. Competitors may choose any one of over a dozen starting points, but for every ten miles distance which is less than the maxinaum official

distance (Southsea to Brecon, 299 miles), one point will be deducted.

On the following morning, cars will start at one minute intervals from Brecon. for Llangollen by a long, and in parts difficult, course through the heart of Wales. An average speed of 20 m.p.h. must be maintained and, in addition to two observed hill climbs, observed non-stop running and non-stop engine tests, there will be a test for fuel consumption.

The tanks will be filled with a known quantity of petrol at Brecon and measured at the close of the run, note being taken of any petrol bought on the way.
