Bodyguards rapped following US GP
It may have gone on to be a rather cringeworthy internet meme, but Martin Brundle’s car-crash grid-walk ‘interview’ with a US rapper also had the upside of getting bodyguards banned from the grid.
Ahead of the US Grand Prix in Texas, Brundle attempted to ask Megan Thee Stallion (no, we have no idea either…) if she had any F1-themed rap to share and which driver she would be supporting. He was then shut down by her bodyguard, who bore a resemblance to Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter. The incident riled F1 fans as many accused celebrity entourages of having power trips, even though they have been invited into the sport’s inner sanctum and should be more appreciative.
F1 bosses agreed and announced that bodyguards would no longer be welcome on the grid, even if they put the restriction down to space limitations and Covid protocol.
Brundle said on Twitter: “I don’t care who visits the grid. Talk to me, ignore me, shove, wave, hug… whatever. All I ask is that you soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the privilege.”
