New markets boost Ferrari
Italy may be in the economic doldrums but its most coveted car manufacturer is anything but.
Figures just released for the first nine months of 2012 show that Ferrari made €152 million profit on a turnover of €1.76 billion and delivered 5267 cars. If that rate is maintained Ferrari will have delivered over 7000 cars during 2012. To put this in some perspective, 10 years ago Ferrari built just 4236 cars.
Sadly for the home crowd, none of this growth is domestic. Twenty years ago Italy was regularly one of the top three markets for Maranello products, but with the crisis in Southern Europe and the emergence of powerful new markets right around the world, it now struggles to break into the top 20.
