Entries flood in for Abu Dhabi event
The grids for the inaugural Abu Dhabi Classic are over-subscribed following a positive response to the January event from the historic racing fraternity. Races for five grids, covering Grand Prix cars of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s along with World Sportscar Masters and ’50s Sports/Pre-66 GT cars will form the second event at the new Yas Marina facility.
“We’ve had interest from all over the world and some of the grids are heavily over-subscribed,” reported Christopher Tate of the Masters Series organisation. “There will be a full grid of 24 3-litre F1 cars and bigger grids for some of the other races.”
Tate said that a prime objective of the new event is to show a diverse range of cars, explaining the development of F1 machinery and sports cars, to a new audience. “The aim is to create awareness in the region of the heritage of international motor racing.”
