Surtees to chase fresh F5000 glory
The Formula 5000 Surtees TS11 that US racer Sam Posey took to second place in the 1972/73 Tasman Series will return to New Zealand and Australia this winter for the F5000 Revival races.
Now owned by British racer Greg Thornton, the Surtees went to the US in 1972 where Posey (above) took it to second in the US F5000 Championship. He then shipped it south for the Tasman races.
“It will be very special to take the car back to New Zealand for the first time since ’73,” said Thornton, who will race it at both Bruce McLaren events in January as well as the Australian GP support races in March.
