Bob Holbert

Accomplished racer Robert ‘Bob’ Holbert died on Monday November 12. He was 84. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Holbert became a Porsche dealer in 1954 and went on to find great success aboard 550 and 718RSK sports-racers. He won four SCCA titles, and took five class victories in the Sebring 12 Hours (three consecutively; second overall in 1960 with Roy Schechter). On signing for Carroll Shelby, he claimed the inaugural USRRC title in 1963 only to retire a year later after a prosperous season aboard a Daytona Cobra. His son Al was an IMSA superstar in the 1970s and ’80s but tragically lost his life in an aircraft accident in 1988.
