Finnish star for London-Sydney

Rauno Aaltonen is to contest the London-Sydney Marathon next year.

The Finn drove a works BMC 1800 ‘Land Crab’ in the original event in 1968, but will contest the 2004 rally in a Ford Escort RS2000.

Aaltonen finished fifth in ’68 with Henry Liddon and Paul Easter.

“I still remember the original event as one of the great adventure rallies, said Aaltonen. “It was tough and there were surprises every day. This time, I’m a little older and a little wiser!”
