Old bikers reunite

Donington Park had a meeting in October of 10 motorcycle riders who achieved fame pre-war there, with demos by a 1939 s/c Velocette twin, the ex-Stanley Woods Velocette 500 and Freddie Hicks’ 1930 AJS.

The pre-war racers’ committee (01332 0811123) seeks more riders.

Alan Clark

The late Alan Clark’s diaries into politics (Weidenfeld & Nicholson) have appeared containing plenty of motoring recollections, as did his previous books.

I got to page 45 where he says, “Back to bed with a piece of fruit cake and the latest Motor Sport. One of the best days so far.” This was presumably the January 1974 issue, in which Clark could have read our protest about 50mph speed limits, Alan Henry’s Argentine Grand Prix report, about my drive on a 1902 9.3-litre Paris-Vienna Mors and my account of the cars I’d driven in 1973, a Jensen Interceptor road test, and a continuation of Michael Tee’s tour across America in Hertz Fords.

I hope the magazine was found to be wholesome.
