Crystal Palace shines on

Sir,

I read with some interest your article last month on the old circuit through the park at Crystal Palace. I have to say, however, that I was a little surprised by the final paragraph as, for the past four years the park has most definitely echoed to the sound of racing engines being driven competitively, as they sprinted around a 700-metre combined section of pre and post-war circuits.

Together with the London Borough of Bromley, Sevenoalcs & District Motor Club have resurrected the old Spring Bank Holiday meeting for a fine selection of cars from pre-war Austins and Bentleys right up to cars which featured at the circuit as it closed in 1972.

Plans are already under way for next year’s event, when it is hoped to feature the UK competition debut of Emerson Fittipaldi’s Formula 2 Lotus, which previously held the outright lap record. Any interested competitors should contact the club via our website wwvv.sdmc.btinternet.com.

So please, before you write off a venue as being dead and buried, remember there are still enthusiasts who are able to bring events back to life.

I AM, YOURS ETC,

Neil Brooks-Johnson, Event Director, Sevenoaks & District MC
