If Motor Sport of the 1980s can be trusted(!), Mr Groves (Letters, November 1999) is correct in saying that Emilio de Villota raced a March until the Spanish Grand Prix. He was indeed the last of the ‘Silvio Moser’ style of privateer, but there were more of the ‘Rob Walker’ style later in the season.

RAM Racing entered private Williams cars for Rupert Keegan from the British Grand Prix to the end of the season, as well as an entry by the same team for Desire Wilson at the British Grand Prix and one for Geoff Lees at Watkins Glen. Surely these two entries at the US Grand Prix East in 1980 were the ‘last of the privateers.’ Any further offers?
