Different Tracks

David Smith (Letters, December) tells us that Monza ’63 was the only Grand Prix to have two different circuit configurations during one event.

Not quite right.

At Barcelona in ’94 when perhaps emotion overtook intellect in the wake of Senna’s death, a silly chicane was added after the event had started.

There was almost another occasion in Adelaide in ’94. Returning from supper Nigel Mansell and I discovered some Australian navvies, with a huge drill, reshaping the kerb upon which Mr Schumacher had damaged his car trying to better Nigel’s time. The blame, apparently, lay with the kerb and not Mr Schumacher, and they had been invited to alter it. They were reminded, quite sharply, of the rules and invited to desist.

They desisted.

Perhaps someone has other examples?
