VSCC Lakeland Trial

This is one of the more renowned of VSCC trials, perhaps because it is tougher than some and takes in much beautiful scenery, although it is doubtful whether the latter is immediately apparent to busy navigators and hard-working drivers. This year, on November 7, 83 crews set out to attempt to vanquish such sections as Prickly, Thirlby’s Folly, Sale Fell, Darling Howe, Widow Hause, the dreaded Drumhouse and eight others. James Diffey won the Bridge Hotel Award in his 1929 A7, David Bond’s 1926 Morris took the Kirkstile Plate, Richard Parker’s 1928 A7 the Patterson Trophy, with, of course, First Class awards as well. Others to win First Class Awards were: R Felton (Bugatti), J Baxter (A7), S Baxter (Chrysler), Second Class Awards were won by F Giles (Frazer Nash), S Gordon (A7), Jane Tomlinson (A7), P Evans (A7), R Lowe (A7), B Spollon (30/98), D Marsh (30/98), J Ghosh (30/98), B Collings (Bentley), R Harcourt-Smith (Alvis) and M Holt (Ford). Third Class Awards went to P Longhurst (Riley), G Winder (A7), J Mackinnen (A7), Di Threlfall (Ford), P Tebbett (Riley) and T Jones (30/98).
