Proteus Technology

Protech, short for Proteus Technology, is part of the Proton Group which is a holding company for the Greek shipowning Livanos family and Aston Martin chairman Victor Gauntlett. Proton owns 75 per cent of Protech, Richard Williams and Ecurie Ecosse sharing the balance. Peter Livanos, a longtime Aston Martin enthusiast and amateur racer in America, underwrote the racing programme to the extent of £26 million over five years, and spent £2 million on bringing the first prototype to the test stage last December. Mobil. whose products are carried in the Livanos family’s ships, became the sole sponsor with

enthusiasm that extended to wide “good luck” advertising before Donington.

Early in September, 42 people were employed in the new premises which cover 36,500 square feet at Milton Keynes. There are bays for four racing cars, carbon and composite workshops, a machine shop, a fabricating shop, a paint oven, an electrical/telemetry department, and stores. In 1990 Aston Martin will run two cars throughout the season, and three at Le Mans. So far five AMRls have been built, though the second chassis is used only for jigging. MLC
