Monoposto racing

The committee running this form of single-seater racing using the 1,172-c.c. side-valve Ford engine, have announced that there will be no major changes to the Formula for 1964, but that it is envisaged that a maximum cockpit width rule will be brought in for 1965, in order to ensure that racing is restricted to single-seater cars. As from January of this year any proprietary racing chassis not in current production will be eligible for this form of racing, which should use up some of the redundant Formula Junior cars – but remember that a side-valve Ford Ten unit must be fitted in place of the Junior engine. It is still considered possible to build a Ford Ten-engined single-seater for less than £500 and with a race for Monopostos available on the average once every three weeks throughout the season, there is plenty of opportunity for the clubman who wants to try single-seater racing. In addition the cars can, and often are, used in Club Formule Libre events and in hill-climbs, so anyone interested should contact F. J. Tiedeman, 185, Swakeleys Road, Ickenham, Uxbridge, Middlesex.
