Nineteen hundred and sixty-two is but a memory with only the R.A.C. Trials Championship for 1962 lingering on into 1963. The last two of the twenty events to qualify drivers to compete for the Championship Trial on March 23rd, the Kentish Border and the London M.C.’s Gloucester took place on November 25th and December 2nd respectively. The Kentish Border event produced a popular win for Southern driver Colin Taylor in his “Cannonball” from Bernard Dees Cannon with the inevitable Rex Chappell third. The Gloucester found Peter Highwood (Canhi) on top with Maidstone driver, Percy Barden (P.A.B.-Ford) second, and Malcolm Eaves third. In addition to the nineteen names given in Trials Topics (page 942, December 1962 edition), George Simpson (Cannon), by virtue of his fourth place in the Gloucester, has also qualified, thus taking the total of Championship contestants to twenty, an increase of two over the 1961 event. The 1963 Championship series gets under way with the Peterborough M.C.’s Warco Cup Trial on January 6th, at Weldon, near Corby.—E. L. W.
