* * A 1927 Minerva

Sir„

I own a 1927(?) 12/i8 Minerva which I am gradually restoring. It is a pity that so many authors of newly published books almost invariably condemn sleeve-valve engines. I never have any trouble in turning over the engine, even in mid-winter, and in its 35 years of hard work, especially by one previous owner

fir ‘

who had no care for the car whatsoever, none have ever damaged the sleeves at all. They have actually improved with use, and although oil consumption is perhaps a little higher than a conventional engine, there is a great saving in maintenance. It seems to me that few of these authors have had much experience with this type of engine. Christchurch, N.Z.
