British Fords Originated in U.S.A.

At a Press Conference last year, sponsored by the Edsel Division of the American Ford Motor Company, Mr. Breech, Chairman of the Board, in discussing the future of small cars on the U.S. Market, is reported to have said that the British Fords were designed in the American engineering department. This is revealing to those who thought that Dagenham had at least the major share in the design of Ford cars manufactured in Britain. It seems rather surprising that cars which originated in the land of universal high-output o.h.v. power units should be endowed with antiquated petrol-thirsty side-valve engines and wide-gap three-speed gearboxes.
