On Saturday, December 1st I read in Motor Sport a letter from CV 1860 comparing his M-type MG with the Morgan Plus Four. On the following day we took our 1930 “Biarritz” Riley Nine to Bournemouth. The outward journey took 8 hours 40 minutes with a learner driver for half the run and a stoppage owing to condensation in the ignition. The return after dark took 3 hours 20 minutes with 10 minutes stop for a hot drink. The distance on the clock-109 miles. The petrol used— three gallons each way. The oil was not checked (“verb sap”). The route was via Stockbridge and Romsey which involves some few tricky bits. The load was three people, none small.

Incidentally, the old lady has hardly been touched since putting up 10,000 miles during her 21st year apart from routine maintenance and a decoke 5,000 miles ago. In that distance she has cost £6 for a magneto overhaul.

With CV1860, I wonder where is this progress ?
