Morgan views
Sir,
I have no experience of the Morgan Plus Four, but to say that the 1938 models suffered with the same defects is absolutely untrue in my own experience. I own a 1939 model fitted with the said steering dampers which have done a mileage of 36,000 odd and they haven’t broken yet, I have recently converted the front suspension to the latest type and fitted the old steering dampers back on again. Also the clutch withdrawal mechanism still works and is intact. As for Mr Archer trying to keep the four wheels on the ground when being passed by family chariots this is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard of, as I consider the Morgan one of the finest roadholding cars to be had.
The jacking system is quite adequate for changing a wheel and that’s all manufacturers intend them to be used for in my opinion. Morgans were not the only people who used this type of jacking system and with the chassis frame nearly on the ground with any type of car this would be no picnic.
What about the “4/4” at Le Mans ?
Criticise the Plus Four if you like, Mr Archer, for having the aforesaid defects but not the 1938-39 models, thank you.
I am, Yours, etc.,
Philip H Jaques. Shepshed.
