RECORDS IN A SNOWSTORM

THE business of record breaking seems largely a matter of give and take, first one and then another car raising certain records in the course ef a few weeks.

Last month it will be remembered that Pierre Veyton took several records in Class F (up to 1,500 c.c.) with a super-charged 8 cylinder Bugatti. These had been held by Eyston’s.6 cylinder Riley, and the latter promptly turned out to recover his lost records. The weather was bleak at the start, and later degenerated hit a Snowstorm, but Eyston an McLure, the co-driver, succeeded in getting back three of the records. Here are the new figures, which have received official confirmation:

500 kilos, 1-12.37 m.p.h. (Bugatti 109.18 m.p.h.).

500 miles, 110.53 m.p.h. (Bugatti 107.71 m.p.h.).

3 hours, 112.42 m.p.h. (Bugatti 109.116 m.p,11.).

Zehender gets Four Records. For weeks, almost

For many weeks, almost months, Freddie Zehender has been “on duty” at Montlhery, covering laps at odd times of the day with a single-seater 3,000 c.c. Maserati. His intention

was to attack the world’s hour record, but for various reasons this was postponed. Instead, Zehender took out the Maserati for an onslaught on records in Class D (up to 3,000 c.c.) and in the course of three-quarters of an hour succeeded in cleaning up four. These were as follows :

50 kilometres,. 130.50 m.p.h. (Bugatti, 129.17 m.p.h.:).

50 miles, 131.47 m.p.h. (Bugatti, 130.04 m.p.h.).

100 kilometres, 131.78 m.p.h. (Bugatti, 130.14 m.p.h.).

100 miles, 132.43 m.p.h. (Bugatti 124.15 m.p.h.). It will be seen that these figures represent a Substantial increase on Divo’s records, particularly the 100 miles. They have received

official confirmation.

A milear Record Activities. The brothers de Gabardie

The brothers de Gabardie finished off a good season’s racing last month when they broke six long distance records in Class G

at , Montlhery. In addition to winning the Bol d’Or, this year, they finished 12th at Le Mans, and won the 1,100 .e.c class of the Belgian 24 hour race.

The records against which their attempt was directed were those captured two months ago by Eyston, Denly, Vallop and Wisdom on the M.G. Magna:, On this occasion the drivers of the Amilcar were the de Gabardie brothers and Arthur Duray. The weather was exceedingly cold when the attempt started at 8 a.m. in the morning, and baring the usual replenishment stoppages the run was accomplished with complete regularity. The records broken were as follows :

2,000 kilometres, 85.40 m.p.h. (M.G., 80.75 m.p.h.).

3,000 kilometres, 84.90 m.p.h. 80.57 m.p.h.).

m.p.h.). 2,000 miles, 86.25 m.p.h. (M.G., 80.49
