A BMW 2002 Tii that’s totally original and unrestored is a rare find these days. The August 1972 right-hand-drive car for sale with Old Colonel Cars in Hertfordshire is one such example and has led a cosseted life. It has had just five owners and has what is believed to be a genuine 51,000 miles on the clock.
“Most 2002s have been restored two or three times, or maybe patched up before someone bites the bullet and does a ground-up restoration,” say’s Old Colonel’s Andy Miller. “Rust was a problem, but this one has all the original metalwork. There is no sign of welding at all. I’ve been specialising in BMWs for 14 years and I’ve seldom come across a 2002 as nice as this.”
The car is rare in that it comes with a full history, including the original manual and service book, as well as the period sales brochures. The engine underwent a full strip-down by a BMW specialist at 48,000 miles and the car was resprayed in its original Verona red approximately six years ago. The centre sections of the front seats have been re-trimmed, but the car comes with the material that was replaced.
“The car runs perfectly, hot or cold,” continues Miller. “With the injected Tiis it’s about finding the right specialist to set them up. Your local BMW dealer is probably going to struggle.”
“This is just a lovely car because it has not been messed around with in any way.”
The asking price is £34,995.
