The fastest drive-through...

Sir,

A story authenticated by Road & Track magazine: at the 1957 Sebring 12 Hours Stirling Moss and Harry Schell drove a factory Maserati 300S. In the afternoon, Stirling was in the car when he came through a slow corner and noticed photographer Bernard Cahier shooting near the edge of the corner. As Moss drove through, he indicated to Cahier that he was thirsty. Bernard walked to a nearby refreshment stand and bought a bottle of Coca Cola. The next time Moss came through the corner, Cahier leaned out and handed Stirling the cold Coke!

Apparently, Moss raced down the main straight drinking the Coke, which caused great consternation in the Maserati pits! When he came back by Cahier’s location, he tossed the empty bottle back to Bernard. It would have been one of those “yeah, sure” stories if it hadn’t been caught by a local photographer.
