1960s British single seater racing
Nearly an hour of quality colour film from this era is a real treat and there is great variety here, too. Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Mallory Park and Crystal Palace are the scenes for Formula Junior, F2 and F1, all shot by film-maker David Roscoe. Typically plummy period commentary and ubiquitous ’60s newsreel music (or perhaps that should be ‘muzak’) completes the time warp.
Highlights include future great train robber Roy James winning at Cadwell Park (butter wouldn’t melt in this film!) and a nice bonus is the 1967 Race of Champions, with terrific footage shot all round Brands as Dan Gurney scores a debut win for his new Eagle. At a tenner, it’s great value for money too. DS
