PM Brown lauds Lewis at awards

Prime Minister Gordon Brown expressed the nation’s pride in new World Champion Lewis Hamilton when he presented the McLaren ace with one of five awards during the British Racing Drivers’ Club lunch at the Café Royal on Regent Street in December.

The PM presented Lewis with the Richard Seaman Trophy at the annual awards, held for the second consecutive year in London. “On behalf of the British people,” he said, “what a privilege it is to present this to Lewis Hamilton for his great successes this year and for the years to come, in a great sport, that makes us so proud of Britain.”

As well as receiving awards, Hamilton made a very special presentation. Sir Stirling Moss was surprised with the unique honour of being made BRDC vice-president for life, to mark his 60 years of club membership. Also, Ron Dennis became only the ninth recipient of a BRDC Gold Medal.
