Expect a Mors

The London-Brighton Veteran Car Run is not a race but, for the record, the first car to arrive in 2001 was Stuart Evison’s 1902 Mors.

Of 365 pre-1905 veterans, only 30 failed to make it in the time limit.

The oldest, Daniel Ward’s 1892 Peugeot, was successful, as was HM The Queen’s chauffeur driving the 1900 Daimler from the Royal Mews at Sandringham. Lord Strathcarron’s

usually reliable 1903 Georges Richard was towed in by a modem car, but had presumably made the Pylons finish on time.

A lady reporter who was a friend of Charles Jarrott called this re-enactment of the 1896 Emancipation Run the world’s oldest motoring event. But this overlooks the 1894 Paris-Rouen trial and the 1895 race from Paris to Bordeaux.
