Demolition Derby

New Zealand’s Super-fast Wigram Airfield Circuit, scene of great Tasman Cup victories for Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Jochen Rindt and local ace Bruce McLaren in the early 1960s, will be demolished after the annual historic motorsport celebration next month.

The 18-day Southern Festival of Speed, including a Dunedin street race, a hillclimb and speed events, begins at Ruapuna Park on February 5-6, before the Wigram’s send-off on the 9th. After the music of the last engines has died down, developers are due to move in.
