David Baker, one of the prime movers in the Midland Racing Partnership which ran Richard Attwood, Frank Gardner, John Surtees and others in Formula Junior and F2 in the early 1960s, plans to reunite Attwood with one of its FJ Lolas in 1999. The chassis, found in a very sad state, is being restored by the team’s original chief mechanic Harry Curzon.

A series of three events demonstrating Historic Indycars – from pre-War machines through classic front-engined roadsters to obsolete late-model chassis – is mooted in the USA this season, following the success of the pilot show at last September’s CART World Series finale at the new Fontana oval in California.

Steve Hartley is to contest the 1998 Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship in an Arrows A6 which, like the Ensign N177 he ran this year, was raced by Marc Surer. One of the neatest Cosworth DFV engined cars, the 1983-4 Arrows should enable Hartley to fight for podium places.

The sixth Rally des Pyrenees, from June 21-26, will allow Classic car owners to exercise their steeds over some of western Europe’s finest roads on a 760-mile route from Hendaye in France to Hondarriba in Spain.
