Triumph 2000 & 2.5PI
Triumph 2000 & 2.5PI, by Graham Robson. Crowood Autoclassics, £19.95.
Perhaps the 2000 was not one of the all-time great motorcars, but it’s easy to forget what a serious player in the executive market Triumph once was. Robson’s outline is thorough and well illustrated, and all the better informed because he was involved in both the development and the competition career of the 2000 and the later 2.5PI, the pioneering fuel-injected variant. Taking the tale from the Fifties, when Standard-Triumph was desperate for a new saloon, through to the end in 1977, Robson includes the struggle to make the Stag derivative work — and sell — in this — readable account.
